| Our beautiful soap bars offer the perfect memorable, affordable luxury gift. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aging: Soap and cheese are obviously different, but in comparison to soap making, some of the processes are similar. While cheese is aged to become stronger in flavour, Bittersweet Soap is left to rest to increase its mildness. Commercial soap manufacturers often use chemical accelerators to speed up the aging process. Although our soap requires a resting period of four to six weeks, we consider that time to be worth its weight in producing a natural chemical free bar of soap. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the soap maker: Since 1997, Jill McDowell, Lincoln has been designing, manufacturing and creating soulful body products and essentials in her European style studio. For five of those years she owned and operated her own brick and mortar shop located in her historic hometown of Liberty Missouri. The boutique offered her items exclusively. After five years of managing a shop as well as creating the merchandise that lined the shelves, her hectic shop owners schedule didn't allow her to focus on her passion of creating. She turned her attention back to designing and creating after those five years and introduced the "Saturday Studio." The studio offered an outlet for her local customers to continue to purchase their favorite products as well as browse new creations, as Jill's passion for creating continues to evolve each and every day. In March, 2013 Jill opened a soap shop on water street. The shop is located in a beautiful century old home. This spot was Bittersweets original location ten years ago! Bittersweet shares her soap shop with her best friend, Julie. The two girls decided to join forces and share the responsibilities of shop ownership. Julie owns a vintage boutique filled with one of a kind vintage and shabby chic items. Below Julie and Jill's shop is a coffee shop that offers fresh roasted beans! The aroma coming from the soap shop and coffee shop is divine! On a spring day you may find Julie or Jill sitting on the huge front porch of the old home. The porch is a favorite spot with customers too. Maybe you prefer sitting in the courtyard. During spring months you can smell the lily of the valley next door at the Jesse James Bank Museum. If you're planning a trip to our historic town you must include these three shops to your itinerary. You will be happy you did. For more information and to see shop hours click here. |
